Photo Memoir Services

    1. Organizing

                                                    i.     Categorize – First, we seek to understand your thinking process in grouping and separating  photos.  This can be based on chronology (lifelines), family trees, and/or major subjects (such as events or roles.)

ii.     Sort & Purge – Next we go through all the photos and group them by category, simultaneously purging duplicates, poor quality, and the less meaningful.  We use organizing speed tools & techniques to aid in decision making and save you time.

    1. Research

                                                    i.     Genealogy research – At your option, we will perform family history and lineage searches on your behalf.

ii.     Interviewing – At your option, we will interview key family members and friends to “fill in the blanks” in the story to be created and documented.

    1. Restoration & Repair

                                                    i.     If important photos are found to be fragile or damaged, then we will scan them into digital format at high resolution for electronic restoration.

ii.     Restoration of a photo will encompass electronic removal of:

1.     red eye or “pet eye”

2.     dust, scratches, or tears

3.     shadows and poor backgrounds

4.     unwanted elements

5.     fading due to age or sun damage

iii.     If necessary, your photo(s) will be shipped to an outside  restoration service.

iv.     All newspaper clippings will be scanned before mounting into a traditional album, to avoid browning due to lignin.

                                                  v.     Other memorabilia and containers will be tested for pH content and long term photo safety.

    1. Conversion (Paper to Digital, Digital to Paper)

                                                    i.     At your option, your selected paper photos, slides, or negatives will be scanned into digital format before editing or cropping.

ii.     All digital photo files will be saved to an archival quality CD containing phthalocyanine dye.  A thumbnail index will be produced for searching & retrieval.

iii.     At your option, your selected digital photos will be printed on high quality paper for presentation (in an album or a hall gallery) or archiving (in photo safe storage units.)

    1. Album Making – Albums are created in either a traditional, paper-based fashion, or an electronic visual presentation.

                                                    i.     Traditional Albums will meet the following quality standards:

1.     Acid free

2.     Lignin free

3.     Buffered

4.     Reinforced edges

5.     Lays flat when open

6.     Modular & Expandable

7.     Easy to add captions

8.     Lifetime guarantee

9.     Well- established supplier

ii.     Digital Albums will be created using one (or more) of the following methods:

1.     PowerPoint

2.     Word

3.     Album Making Software

4.     Album Making Services

5.     Website Gallery

    1. Archiving (Preservation) – All retained photos, slides, or negatives will be organized, indexed, and stored in archival quality containers that are resistant to light, moisture, and temperature swings, such a corrugated polypropylene or inert metal containers.  A subset of those will be put into presentation format such as an album or a family gallery.
