- Organizing
i.
Categorize – First, we seek to understand your thinking process in
grouping and separating photos. This can be based on chronology
(lifelines), family trees, and/or major subjects (such as events or roles.)
ii.
Sort & Purge – Next we go through all the photos and group them by
category, simultaneously purging duplicates, poor quality, and the less
meaningful. We use organizing speed tools & techniques to aid in decision
making and save you time.
- Research
i.
Genealogy research – At your option, we will perform family history
and lineage searches on your behalf.
ii.
Interviewing – At your option, we will interview key family members
and friends to “fill in the blanks” in the story to be created and
documented.
- Restoration & Repair
i.
If important photos are found to be fragile or damaged, then we will
scan them into digital format at high resolution for electronic restoration.
ii.
Restoration of a photo will encompass electronic removal of:
1.
red eye or “pet eye”
2.
dust, scratches, or tears
3.
shadows and poor backgrounds
4.
unwanted elements
5.
fading due to age or sun damage
iii.
If necessary, your photo(s) will be shipped to an outside
restoration service.
iv.
All newspaper clippings will be scanned before mounting into a
traditional album, to avoid browning due to lignin.
v.
Other memorabilia and containers will be tested for pH content and
long term photo safety.
- Conversion (Paper to Digital,
Digital to Paper)
i.
At your option, your selected paper photos, slides, or negatives will
be scanned into digital format before editing or cropping.
ii.
All digital photo files will be saved to an archival quality CD
containing phthalocyanine dye. A thumbnail index will be produced for
searching & retrieval.
iii.
At your option, your selected digital photos will be printed on high
quality paper for presentation (in an album or a hall gallery) or archiving
(in photo safe storage units.)
- Album Making – Albums are
created in either a traditional, paper-based fashion, or an electronic
visual presentation.
i.
Traditional Albums will meet the following quality standards:

- Archiving (Preservation) –
All retained photos, slides, or negatives will be organized, indexed,
and stored in archival quality containers that are resistant to light,
moisture, and temperature swings, such a corrugated polypropylene or
inert metal containers. A subset of those will be put into presentation
format such as an album or a family gallery.
